Under certain "Agile tools and filters" global configuration settings, the option to enable "column groups" was always disabled. Even after adjusting related configuration parameters, the toggle remained inactive and could not be turned on. This prevented agile board admins from configuring or using column grouping functionality as intended.

This release refines one of Agile Tools’ most powerful board configuration features.

The former Multicolumn WIP capability has been renamed to Column Groups - with improved clarity, usability, and control.

Users can now:

• Enable or disable Column Groups per board - a highly requested enhancement.

• Allow Jira administrators to define the default state globally in the Agile Tools global configuration.

• Retain all the functionality of Multicolumn WIP, but with a more intuitive name and simplified configuration.

Column Groups let you combine related Jira statuses into logical workflow stages or teams - such as grouping Selected for Dev and In Progress under Development, or In Test and In Review under QA.

When Column Constraint is enabled, you can define shared WIP limits (min/max) for each group — helping your team detect bottlenecks, maintain flow, and implement a Kanban Pull System directly on the board.

• Team visibility: Combine related columns into team lanes (e.g., Dev Team, QA Team) to instantly see workload distribution.

• Bottleneck detection: Identify when testing or review queues exceed defined WIP limits.

• Process hierarchy: Model multi-level processes - e.g., Product Area → Team → Sub-stage - without cluttering the board.

• Scalable workflows: Reuse the same Column Groups structure across multiple boards to standardize processes across teams.

• New “Enable Column Groups” toggle in board and global settings.

• Refreshed UI design and icons.

• Improved German, French, and Polish translations.

We're excited to announce the release of the Agile Tools & Filters for Jira Software 4.4.1

This release adds compatibility for Jira Software 9.7 and contains security fixes.

Additionally we’ve improved search bar fields customisation by adding project or type context detection. Now users or Jira admins, can easily understand how the field will behave on the search bar, while creating configuration. Search bar fields will dynamically become visible while selecting appropriate projects or issue type values. That way admins get a new tool to cover their workflows and use cases.

NEW! Board & Backlog filters globally managed by Jira Administrator.

Jira administrator can create four types of global filters for the Board, Backlog, Epics Panel and Versions Panel. Filters will be available to use for all users.

Filters can be updated, reordered or deleted with Filter Manager and created with "Import" or "Save as" options.

Epic Warnings will help you to find:

If you plan multiple sprints ahead it may be hard to maintain the backlog. Use  a new search input to filters Sprints. The option is hidden by default and can be enabled from the Agile Tools menu by a user, board configuration by a board administrator or globally for all Backlogs by a Jira Administrator.

• Search Bar visibility option has been separated for board and backlog. If the Search Bar was hidden globally before the update, and you want to hide it on the Backlog as well, please update the global configuration.
